Foundation Excavation
Every build begins with a foundation. Lasting from several days to several weeks, proper excavation protocol is critical to the integrity of a build. Without a solid foundation, a new home, addition, or commercial building becomes vulnerable to cracks, leaks, and other damage. A well built foundation begins with an accurate excavation.
Every excavation project involves unique hazards and challenges, depending on the build site and the anticipated building. KK&E has the experience to navigate all conditions.
With over 40 years of successful excavation experience, KK&E can evaluate your build site to determine the most safe, secure, and cost-effective excavation solution.
KK&E has the knowledge, skills and resources to address all aspects of excavation.
Foundation excavation involves the following steps:
Surveying: With the help of engineers, we can assist in finalizing the site plan, placement of the building, and setting the proper grades.
Clearing & Grubbing: The KK&E excavation team clears all objects and vegetation from the site.
Excavating: Once the surveyor has set the foundation stakes, we bring in the heavy equipment and do the “earthwork” to excavate your site. Special equipment and processes might be needed for special soil types like exceptionally hard, rocky, loose, or expansive conditions.
Dewatering: Due to the depth of an excavation and other factors, water can seep into a foundation. When water encroaches, dewatering the foundation becomes necessary. If the foundation is shallow, KK&E can often install drains along the edges of the site. We can then remove the water through bailing or pumping.
Open Hole Inspection: With the excavation dug to proper depth, we invite engineers back to inspect the soil and ensure that it meets their design conditions.
Building the Foundation: Once the site has been inspected, pouring the concrete footing can begin. Curing takes from 3 to 10 days.
Formed and poured concrete walls come next. We backfill, compact and grade the ground around the foundation to ensure proper drainage.
We also provide Final Grading so the site can be ready for hardscapes and landscaping.
Getting the foundation and grading done correctly ensures your building will be safe and stable for generations.
With decades of experience and expertise in all aspects of residential construction, KK&E offers site excavation and foundation preparation for large and small projects.
